Example for us

Once, a visitor was being shown around a leper colony in India. The colony was built to provide a shelter for those people who were poor and had various physical disabilities. At noon a gong (a metal disk that produces a sound when hit with a hammer) sounded to gather the inhabitants for the midday meal. People came from all parts of the compound to the dining hall. Suddenly, everyone started laughing at seeing two young men, one riding on the other’s back, pretending to be a horse and a rider. They were having lots of fun. As the visitor watched, he was told that the man who carried his friend was blind, and the man being carried was lame (who couldn’t walk). The one who couldn’t see used his feet; the one who couldn’t walk used his eyes. Together they helped each other and reached their destination.

Let us use each other’s strengths to make up for the weaknesses of others. Our strength is in unity, not in division.

Can a German Forget?

Annual days are one of the most cherishing moments of my school life. On that particular day we could feel a little bit of freedom. Although it is a one day programme its memories will remain throughout that year. Many cultural programmes will be conducted. I was in 8th. Annual day preparations had just begun. Our English teacher, George M.T was trying to bring a skit for the function. He opted to select from my batch. There were selection trials in which we had to read a section of a drama and present it. I was confident that I had done it well. There were almost 20 students for the selection. He selected 8 from it, and pointing me he said. Shafeeq would do the main role. It was unbelievable. I was very happy.

The rehearsal started. Dialogues were prepared and practiced. I had the role of the great German dictator Hitler. For knowing more about him I referred many books. I got much interest in his character and even started admiring that amazing historian.

The day has arrived. The final rehearsal was done the previous night. I was nervous. George sir gave me the costumes for the skit. There was a police cap, which he had rented. Wearing it with the other costumes made me really tough. He also gave me a mustache like the one Hitler had. My friends also had their costumes.

The time was closer. I was in the backstage. I had to wear a long boot and it was necessary practice to walk with it. At last our call came. The curtain was down. After arranging the stage George sir left the stage bidding a good luck. As the curtain raised my heart started to bounce. It was the first time I was playing a major role in a skit. There a big light to the stage which didn't allow us to see the audience. The skit went normal. I tried my best to express the best of my role. I could keep a face without laugh throughout the play.

It was a story of Hitler's reign. All characters were working in Hitler's residence. The main theme is that everyone forget something and angry Hitler scolds each of them. At last when he raises himself from his seat angrily the audience can see that he was not wearing a pants. Believing that a German cannot forget, Hitler orders his gunman to shoot him. But when the gunman tries to shoot him, there is no bullet since the gunman had forgot to load the gun. Thus it ends.

I can't forget that role. Its dialogues. I can't forget the main dialogue in it..."Can a German forget?"
